The skipper, a long-time kayak enthusiast, acquired the ship in 1984. Built in 1957 for the Columbia Coast Mission by skilled shipwrights at Vancouver's Star Shipyards, her duties as a year-round coastal patrol vessel ceased with the closing of the Mission in 1962. Ownership then passed to the Commodore of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club for 7 years.
Her third career began in 1986, as the concept of Mothership kayak adventuring was introduced by the skipper to a burgeoning market of eco-appreciative vacationers. Today, with 24 seasons of chartering behind her, total updating of systems and equipment, she is an ideal blend of traditional lines, sea-keeping comfort and modern efficiency. Seasonal itineraries span the coast from the southern Gulf Islands to the northern reaches of the Great Bear Rainforest. Our days are filled with fishing, crabbing, exploring, photographing whales, bears, dolphins and eagles. Shipboard meals, creatively prepared by our chef de cuisine, highlight each day.
Guest safety / comfort and individual paddling abilities guide the planning of our kayak excursions, should you wish to participate. Whether a novice or experienced paddler, personal instruction is at your disposal.
