Feel like stretching your legs and learning more about the city? Then this is the Vancouver walking tour for you. It's of course weather dependent. Enjoy it on a dry day and learn about the variety of architecture and culture that clings to the corners of Vancouver, British Columbia only discovered by foot.

|
Depending on your hotel location, you can either catch a cab to 12th and Cambie, or catch the 15 Cambie Street bus and get off at 12th Avenue (City Hall).

|
City Hall was built in 1936 and boasts glorious art-deco décor inside.
Walk one block east along 12th to Yukon and turn left.
Walk one block to 11th Avenue and turn right. You're coming into Mount Pleasant, the oldest neighbourhood outside of the downtown core. Fortunately, many of the homes have been preserved.
Walk one block to Columbia. Turn left. Walk to 10th Avenue. Enjoy the stroll along 10th Avenue . Regularly voted as one of the city's prettiest streets, many of the heritage homes have been preserved. Sadly, as you pass some forgettable apartment blocks, one can only imagine what might have been had developers had more foresight to protect what already existed.

When you get to Ontario, turn right and walk up to 11th Avenue. Then double back to take in some of the exquisite homes. Return to 10th Avenue and continue making your way east to Main Street.

|
Wander north on Main Street to 6th Avenue. Turn right. Explore some of the old buildings now converted into lofts. Parts of this area have been successfully redeveloped and maintained.

The Whip 209 East 6th Avenue
(just east of Main) Time for a bite to eat? The Whip is a casual, friendly spot with a small gallery attached.

|
If you're up for a good long walk (20 minutes), then return to Main Street . Turn right. Walk north towards the downtown core. Pass the Main Street/Science World SkyTrain Station. Turn right at East Pender Street.
ALTERNATIVELY, you can take a 3 Main Bus and also get off at Pender. Walk east along Pender to Jackson (three blocks). Turn right on Jackson.
You're now in Strathcona. A collection of refurbished heritage homes and some still awaiting their day. Turn left on Union Street. This is the prettiest street in Strathcona. Continue along until Glen Drive. Turn right to Venables.

La Casa Gelato 1033 Venables
604-251-3211 Arrive at 1033 Venables and a treat for yourself.
This is an out-of-the-way gelato shop that serves up about 500 flavours.

|
Continue on your walk. Return along Union Street two blocks to Hawks Avenue. Feel free to lose yourself in the winding streets and charm of the neighbourhood.

| 4:00 p.m. |
|
Return to Pender Street. Walk west (towards the downtown). Arrive at 8 West Pender. This is the Sam Kee building. It's the narrowest commercial building in the world. Walk around it. Understand what 1.8 metres (six feet) of depth can achieve.

Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden 578 Carrall Street

$8.75, discount for seniors and students Walk to Carrall Street. Turn right. Go to 578 Carrall Street.
The garden is a reproduction of a private Ming Dynasty garden. It's also the first full-scale classical garden that was build outside of China

Floata Seafood Restaurant 400-180 Keefer St
604-602-0368 Walk half a block south on Carrall to Keefer. Turn left. Walk two blocks to 180 Keefer Street.
This restaurant is the largest Chinese restaurant in the country. Its sheer size means it's a must-see.

On weekend evenings in the summer, walk to Pender Street . Enjoy the Chinese Night Market that thrives until 11:30 pm .
