Nanaimo British Columbia

The coastal city of Nanaimo has much to offer visitors; there are many attractions that will make any vacation or business trip one that will be remembered. There are places to visit for fun and for an exciting day, like the water sports of kayaking and charter fishing.

This is a city that has parks like Bowen Park with a scenic waterfall, a nature center and a children’s barnyard. There is also swimming, wading pools, a duck pond and hiking trails. There is also Beban Park, this is a park with activities for all seasons, with swimming, playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball, golf, lawn bowling and hiking trails.

Nanaimo is a golfers paradise with as many as twenty golf courses located within an hour of the city. It is also a place that is a paradise for walking, with the Harbourfront Walkway; this is where there is scenery, boats and art galleries on a four-kilometer trail for walking. The walkway begins at the downtown harbor and passes the seaplane terminal; it goes through Swy-A-Lana Lagoon Park, where there is the only man-made tidal lagoon. Then it is over the pedestrian bridge and past the Nanaimo Yacht Clue and the BC Ferries Terminal. There are art galleries along the walkway that feature crafts of Canadians and the First Nation.

For a night of culture this is a city that has the Port Theater, which has seating for 804 guests and is well known for the local, national and international performing arts. There is the Nanaimo District Museum which displays include the history of the region, the Snuneymuxw First Nation, the coal mining history, the history of Chinatown and the harbor front.

There are beaches for a day out along the shoreline, with Maffeo Sutton Park and Swy-A-Lana Park for picnics, walking, skating and cycling by the seawall. The beaches are the perfect place for a fun filled day or to relax and watch the boats in the harbor and at sea.

When visiting Nanimo there is no shortage of things to do and see including the yearly yacht race around the island and the famous bathtub race.
